BOOK SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

GUIDELINES & APPLICATION

 

PURPOSE:

 

The Jamaican Nationals Association (JNA) will award book scholarships based on financial need for books.  Please note the following guidelines for submitting your application:

 

·         Applicant must be a student attending a college/university and/or residing in the Metropolitan Washington DC area, and he/she should be a Jamaican or the descendant of at least one Jamaican parent.  Education Committee members or JNA members who are related to an applicant will not be allowed to participate in the review, evaluation and determination of scholarship awardees during the year that he/she applies.

·         Applicants must be full-time students enrolled at an undergraduate or graduate school in the Metropolitan Washington DC area, or residing in the area, with a G.P.A. of at least 2.75.

·         A letter from the applicant should indicate relationship to Jamaican Heritage, community involvement, how your education is currently being financed, whether working full-time or part-time, as well as your educational goals.

·         A letter of recommendation must be submitted by an official from the college/university who is familiar with the applicant’s academic record and financial need.

·         Provide a copy of your most recent transcript.

·         Review the “Application Checklist” for additional requirements.

 

Applications and all supporting documentation must be submitted no later than Friday, September 25, 2009 (postmark deadline) and mailed to:

Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.

The deadline for the application is September 25, 2009.

Selected applicants will be announced and scholarship funds awarded at

The Annual Student Reception on October 10, 2009.
