Education Committee
 
  • Identify or serve as mentors to Jamaican students and students of Jamaican heritage in the Washington Metropolitan Area
  • Host an annual reception for Jamaican students coming to the Washington Metropolitan Area
  • Assist with maintaining a scholarship fund for Jamaican students and students of Jamaican heritage
  • Develop educational component for one or two general membership meetings – Black History Month in February and Jamaican Heroes Celebration in October
  • Develop one life-skill training for students and general membership
  • Extend Scholarship Award to college students of Jamaican heritage living in Jamaica.

Education Committee

 

The Education Committee is responsible for the planning and execution of educational and outreach projects to the Jamaican community.  Such activities include but not limited to:

  • Identify and serve as mentors to Jamaican students and students of Jamaican heritage in the metropolitan area.
  • Host an annual reception for Jamaican students in the Washington Metropolitan area.
  • Develop criteria for awarding at least four (4) scholarships to students of Jamaican heritage in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
 
Measuring your Success
 
  1. The committee chair will lead the team in developing no more than five (5) key annual initiatives which include the three (3) listed above.

 

  1. The committee chair will create a process for matching students with mentors.

 

  1. The committee will create an evaluation process for measuring effectiveness of the mentoring program.

 

  1. The committee will provide the necessary coordination to host the annual Jamaican Students reception.

 

  1. The committee will develop the criteria for awarding at least four (4) scholarships to students of Jamaican heritage in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. 

 

  1. The committee will meet at least once monthly and report progress to the executive committee prior to each general meeting. Committee chairperson must designate an alternate chairperson for monthly meetings, if she/he cannot be present.

 

  1. The committee chair will use/request the resources offered by other committee chairs and executive members as needed.

 

  1. The committee will use the resources of the finance and funding committee to develop budgets and raise funding for all initiatives.

 

  1. The committee will maintain clear financial records and include in reporting document.

 

  1. The committee will contribute 50% of its profits from fund raising to the Building Fund until a building is purchased or leased.  (not applicable to this Committee)
